Tips for collecting
your sperm sample
If you’re considering an at-home sperm test for male fertility testing, it’s crucial to provide a suitable sample for accurate results. Follow these tips to ensure your semen sample meets our lab’s requirements, even if you’ve provided one before. This will help ensure you receive reliable results from our male fertility testing services.
Abstain from sexual activity
Avoid sexual activity for 2 to 5 days before collecting a semen sample. It should be more than 2 days since your last ejaculation but not more than 7 to 10 days.
No Lubricants
Do not use any lubricant this includes saliva. Similarly, do not collect your semen in a condom (the spermicidal agents will alter the results of the analysis).
Collect in the cup
Avoid touching the inside of the collection cup and try to get the first part of your ejaculation in the cup, as it is thought to be the most sperm-rich. If any semen spills, do not attempt to transfer it to your cup.
Time is crucial
Sperm cells don’t live that long after ejaculation. Make sure you have arranged your courier for immediate pick up.

FAQs
Getting the insights you need to improve your health has never been easier.
Your fertility health is essential for your future plans, even if you’re not trying to conceive right now. Fertility issues can often be present without any signs or symptoms. Therefore, it’s crucial to take proactive measures to ensure that your reproductive health is in good shape.
Regular fertility testing, such as hormone testing for women and sperm tests for men, can help you identify any potential issues before they become a bigger problem. By testing early and regularly, you can gain valuable insights into your fertility health, which will allow you to take informed decisions about your future family planning and take necessary steps to optimize your fertility.
We recommend testing every 6-12 months, even if you’re not actively trying to conceive. This proactive approach to your reproductive health can help you achieve your family planning goals and improve your chances of conception in the future.
Whilst the NHS provides fertility testing and treatments, there can be barriers to accessing these services, such as long waiting times, limited availability, and certain eligibility criteria. Additionally, the NHS typically only offers testing and treatment after a year of unsuccessful attempts to conceive. Time is of the essence when it comes to fertility health, and waiting a year could have significant implications.
Choosing our at-home fertility test provides a more convenient and accessible option for those who want to take a proactive approach to their reproductive health. Our comprehensive tests offer valuable insights into your fertility status and cover a wide range of biomarkers, which may not be included in standard NHS testing.
We understand that purchasing a fertility test is an important decision and you may have concerns about the refund policy. If you no longer want to use your kit or change your mind and wish not to collect your sample, please contact us within 14 days of your test kit being delivered to you.
Due to the nature of our home sample collection kits, the kits cannot be reused. Please be aware that the cost of the kit and shipping may be deducted from the refund.
We understand that the reliability of your fertility test results is crucial, and we take quality, transparency, and accountability seriously. Our commitment to providing you with accurate and reliable results is paramount, which is why we subject your results to strict internal and external quality control measures.
Internally, we follow strict standard operating procedures and quality assurance measures for all analytical processes. We also only use labs that meet stringent technical and administrative standards, and conform to recognised National External Quality Assessment Schemes. These schemes, and the labs that participate in them, are the same ones used by the NHS and private laboratories.
Furthermore, our labs have received accreditation from the U.K. Accreditation Service (UKAS), which provides accreditation to the internationally recognized ISO 15189 Medical Laboratories: Requirements for Quality and Competence standard.
If you have any concerns or questions about the reliability of your results, please don’t hesitate to contact us at testkits@profertility.com, and we’ll be happy to address your queries.
We also have a team of medical professionals in the UK who review all of our test results. If any of your results fall outside of the expected range for your age and gender, a doctor will provide you with actionable advice to help you take the necessary steps to achieve your reproductive health goals.
ProFertility can only offer testing to men and women aged 18 years and older.
There are no restrictions based on your BMI.
