My Story:
personal experience to advocacy
As a child, I envisioned a future with a fulfilling career in science and a family of my own. After graduating with a degree in Biomedical Science, I was drawn to the corporate world and decided to pursue a business career in London.
Turning Point: A Personal Loss
Early in my career, I experienced a miscarriage. This event led me to grapple with many questions: “Why did this happen? Was it my fault? What could I have done differently?” This experience sparked my curiosity about fertility and ultimately reshaped my professional path.
A Commitment to Advancing Fertility Care
For the past 14 years, I have dedicated myself to advancing fertility care. I established the UK’s first independent egg and sperm banks and collaborated with leading fertility clinics. Throughout this journey, I witnessed the remarkable resilience of individuals and couples striving to create families. Yet, I also uncovered a troubling truth: many people lack essential knowledge about their reproductive health.
Redefining Family Planning
Family planning is often viewed narrowly—as merely a way to prevent pregnancy. This perspective fosters misconceptions, leading many to overlook the importance of understanding their fertility health. Those planning to become parents often remain unaware of critical issues like age-related fertility decline. Moreover, many donors who have used hormonal birth control for extended periods lack insight into their natural menstrual cycles and potential health implications.
Breaking the Silence
Conversations about fertility often happen behind closed doors, leaving individuals feeling isolated. Women with debilitating reproductive issues frequently receive quick fixes, such as being prescribed the pill, rather than comprehensive care. Men are often sidelined in these discussions, reinforcing the outdated belief that fertility is solely a women’s issue.
